Johannes Steyer and Matthias Millhoff will be the first to tell you – everything can change in an INSTANT. One improvised set at a New Year’s Eve party years ago convinced the two electronic artists that their fusion of modular systems with drum machines was far more than an experiment. INSTANT’s first performance proved that audiences feel the difference between a DJ playing a pre-recorded track and live analog-infused techno that adapts to the rhythm of the dancefloor in real time.   In short, audiences from Moscow to Berlin, have gravitated toward the improvised, hypnotic sound that embodies INSTANT. Every show is completely unique, playing to the duo’s strength both as live performers and empaths.   “The music is experimental, because of how we’re making it,” Matthias explains in his off-the-cuff, casual manner. “But it’s accessible, too, on an emotional level.”   “Not to mention–it’s danceable,” Johannes adds with an effusive grin. Considering how innovative the two are (INSTANT built the world’s largest sequencer, the RMBA-20, and recently released a website devoted to sharing loops with fans and musicians everywhere), they never forget that, at the end of the day, it’s about the music.   “We’ve had sets at Watergate for the past few years, but it’s exciting to join the family now,” Johannes says.
