Bop is a Saint-Petersburg–born, UK-based music producer known for his precise, minimalist sound that bridges drum & bass and ambient electronica. A pioneer of the emotional, micro-detailed side of the genre — sometimes called microfunk — he first gained recognition with his debut album Clear Your Mind on Med School Music, which charted in the UK Official Top 40 Dance Albums in 2009. He followed with The Amazing Adventures of One Curious Pixel and Punk’s Not Dead, both expanding the 170 BPM sound into more experimental and introspective territory. Later, projects like Not Your Cup Of Tea and Untitled Patterns revealed his growing fascination with blending dub techno and drum & bass sounds across different tempos and styles. His collaborative album Renaissance with Subwave, along with non–drum & bass releases such as Sparks (on Shall Not Fade), Perehod, and Plexus, further demonstrate his curiosity for genres ranging from UK garage to breakbeat. Recent EPs like Hypnotics and Mornings Are Overrated highlight his ambient sensibility and precision in sound design. As the founder of Microfunk Music for more than a decade, Bop has built a platform for forward-thinking electronic music, releasing vinyl and cassette works by artists including Nuage, Subwave, Synkro, Oak, and Akuratyde. A dedicated supporter of tape culture, he often releases and performs on cassette, exploring the format’s unique characteristics and advocating for its continued place in modern electronic music.
